Tuberculosis (TB) kills more people than any other infectious disease. It is a lethal respiratory pathogen, transmitted through the air, and found in nearly every country in the world. Last year, ten million people worldwide contracted the disease. But it can be beaten.


Ending Workplace TB (EWTB) was launched at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos-Klosters meeting in January 2020 at an event featuring private sector companies (including Johnson & Johnson,  Fullerton Health, and Royal Philips); technical agencies (the Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the Stop TB Partnership) and leaders in workplace health programming (including the Confederation of Indian Industry). The intention was to create an initiative that would bring new partners to the fight against TB.


We believe that the private sector can play a defining role in overcoming the disease by leveraging the untapped potential of businesses around the world to reach millions of workers and their communities, and drive new progress in the highest-burden areas.

Our Membership

Our current membership includes: Accenture, Apollo Tyres, Cepheid (Danaher), Freeport-McMoRan, Fullerton Health, ICON, IQVIA, Johnson & Johnson, Kribi, Labcorp, Menara, Otsuka, Oxford Immunotec (PerkinElmer), PrimeFuels Kenya, Qiagen, Recipharm, Royal Philips, Sanofi, Sequella, Sibanye Stillwater, Société Générale, Total Cameroun, and VVF Life Sciences SA.


Research suggests that up to 50 per cent of cases of some infectious diseases originate in the workplace. If we can break the chains of TB transmission in workplaces, we can break them around the world.

We support our member companies through the provision of resources and technical assistance to help them tackle TB in their workforces and supply chains. Our work focuses on four fundamental challenges that hamper the global TB response and are particularly relevant to companies. They are:

  • Deepening knowledge, changing attitudes and reforming practices about TB in the workplace and in workforce communities through awareness raising and training;

  • Supporting workers to access healthcare through dedicated screening programmes, referral systems and in-house patient support services;

  • Ensuring that sick workers have the necessary social protection and support they need to focus on completing treatment and returning to work in the best possible health; and

  • Expanding efforts beyond workforces and into the community, including through campaigning for greater efforts at the national and international levels.


We also offer access to specialists for companies who work in sectors with high exposure to silica or other air particulates that can damage respiratory health.
